Security
As a waterfront facility, the Port of Cleveland has a security plan and a security force that works around the clock to ensure the safety of visiting vessels, dock workers and port facilities.
Our security plan is based on U.S. Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Coast Guard requirements, and we work in a partnership with federal agencies. The Coast Guard enforces the plan by policing water and Port facilities. U.S. Customs and Border Protection boards every ship docked at the Port, checks the identification of crew members, conducts necessary background checks, verifies shipments, and examines vessels for any suspicious or potentially dangerous cargo, such as narcotics and weapons.
The Port’s security force patrols the facility and monitors vessels 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Entry into the Port is limited to individuals who hold a federal Transportation Worker Identification Card (TWIC). Entry for those without a TWIC credential can be provided by a Port escort for $65/hour, with a $65 minimum beginning April 1st, 2023. Credit/Debit Card or Commercial Check accepted.
